Spirit

Weather forecasting isn't far removed from soothsaying! Weather forecasters often get the gist of what the weather's going to do, but often they get it wrong! God can be as unpredictable as the weather, which in the UK is pretty changeable.

God Himself isn't changeable, but what He can do by His Spirit in people's hearts is. No one is safe from the Spirit's transformation. A drug addict could be delivered. A proud religious hypocrite could be humbled.

Most of us are somewhere in between my two examples. It doesn't matter whether we're notorious sinners or fine upstanding members of the community. God can turn anyone's life right side up.

We're born spiritually dead. We need to be born again by the Holy Spirit of God. We don't get any less alive than dead, and we can't become more spiritually alive than born again of the Holy Spirit.

'Heavenly Father, if we're not already, please cause us to be born again by Your Holy Spirit. May we live as children of the Light, for the praise of Your great name, amen'

Power

Prayer

  Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/col.4.2.ESV Why should we pray? Firstly, because we're commanded to in God's word. Secondly, it teaches us perseverence; it encourages us to become steadfast in it. This is because God often says 'wait' in response to our prayers, which should spur us on to persevere rather than to give up. How can we become steadfast in prayer? No excuses nowadays! There are great apps like PrayerMate which remind us to pray and tell us what to pray for daily. One thing we can often forget to do with prayer is to be watchful in it.
