Reassurance

And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.
Genesis 45:5 ESV

I love Joseph's genuine, conciliatory tone here. His brothers had sold him into slavery many years before, but due to a remarkable turn of events, he'd become prime minister of Egypt. Not only so, but his prudent leadership steered the world through a famine.

Joseph had no animosity towards his troubled-conscience brothers. He could see that the twists and turns of events were all engineered by God. God isn't sadistic, He works all things out for good.

I'm reminded of the Lord Jesus Christ. We could and should feel guilty of responsibility for His death for our sins. Yet He would assure us that He did that for us so that we might have eternal life.

God can even work out the crucifixion of Christ for good. Because Jesus has now defeated death, we can enjoy new life in Him. All things work together for the good of those who love God.

'Almighty God, we thank You for Your sovereign care over us. We repent of our sins and ask You to forgive us, for Jesus' sake, amen'
