Sheep

But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.
Psalm 79:13 ESV

We the people of God have inherent dignity and worth as His precious possession. Once we were not a people, but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Our citizenship is in heaven.

Being God's people is humbling too however, because we're described as the sheep of His pasture. Sheep aren't the most flattering animals to be compared to. They're some of the silliest animals around.

We have every reason to give thanks to our great God. He is our Good Shepherd who will keep us safe all the days of our earthly pilgrimages. He guides us every step of the way.

We have a responsibility to recount God's praise to the next generations. Just as previous generations passed on the faith to us, so we should share it with those who follow us. Technically, our faith is always only one generation away from extinction! We have to proclaim God's goodness and not be miserly with it.

'Good Shepherd, thank You for the great privilege of being Your people. May we always thank You and declare Your praise to subsequent generations, for Your glory and praise, amen'
