Quench


O Lord , the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord , the fountain of living water.
Jeremiah 17:13 ESV

What do we hope in? Is our hope in luck/chance/fortune? Only the Lord Himself is a hope that will never let us down.

There's a warning in this verse, not to forsake the Lord. We're not to give up on our only hope. Because Jesus has died in our place and risen again, we too can defeat death, only by trusting in Him.

We're warned that if we reject the Lord, we'll end up dead and hopeless. Some people think we all will end up like that, but if we put our faith in God, we will rise again. We mustn't forsake the only hope of mankind.

The Lord is a fountain of living water- not literally of course! He is a spiritual source of sustenance. He can quench our spiritual thirst as long as we come to Him.

'O Lord, You are our hope. We trust in You to quench our spiritual thirst. Forbid that we should forsake You, for the glory of Your name, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular.
